Only One Flashlight For Camping
While I don’t think there really is just ONE of a kind flashlight for camping, or one flashlight to rule them all for camping, I do think that some are worth mentioning and particular aspects about any flashlight that I’d want to take camping would be worth looking into.
“One flashlight in the woods, one to bright them. One flashlight in the woods, one to in the darkness blind them.”
All Lord of Rings jokes aside, if you could only bring one flashlight camping, what would it be?
At a question like that you might be thinking, I should bring one of those high powered ones that can burn aluminum and boil water.
If you’re really thinking about boiling all your water with a flashlight you are not going to be able to boil much water before you drain your only light…
So try to think of a long-term light source.
For boiling water, you should be thinking about starting fires and for starting fires I don’t think you are going to last long if you are relying on your flashlight for that.
No, let’s try to be a bit less ridiculous. Burning aluminum cans with your flashlight is fun for Reddit videos in r/flashlight, but for only having one light to camp with I’d be wanting one that lasted a long time and was waterproof and reliable.
With that in mind there are thousands of options, but I’m only going to bring your attention to one:
This thing looks solid but it doesn’t break the bank.
- Has 5 modes (I’m most interested in it’s low setting for sustainable light source in camp)
- Takes AAA or one Li Ion rechargeable (good sustainable versatility for camping)
- Aircraft Grade Aluminum (Most good camping flashlights are durable)
- 100,000 Lamplife hours (That’s 11.4 years of camping flashlight life)
When it comes to a camping flashlight, not only does the light need to be reliable, but the company should be reliable as well.
Reliability
With this camping flashlight and I’m sure other of their survival camping gear, it comes with a 30-day back money guarantee.
When a company gives you a money back guarantee it takes the risk away from you as a customer. Now you have the opportunity to try their flashlight for free without worrying about it being a dud.
Value
If you went ahead and investigated the link to Tac’s camping flashlight and you scroll down near the bottom of the page they offer discounted buying options for buying more flashlights in bulk.
I really like this option.
I like it because I go camping with friends and family and if I want to get someone a gift, I could buy multiple of this light and hand it out and save money getting a quality light for myself and those I care about. (They also offer free shipping, because who doesn’t hate paying for shipping?)
Durability
You can run over this thing with a truck, you can drop it from heights, you can drop it in boiling or freezing water, it’s waterproof and it handles extreme temperatures.
If it happens to be on and you drop it into the lake accidentally you could definitely dive for it if it’s a depth you can handle. (This actually happened to us one year. We watched sadly as our lit flashlight slowly sunk into darkness never to be seen again. We did not dive for it.)
If you accidentally drop it into your fire or your boiling pot of water (I don’t recommend leaving it there) but as far as tests they’ve shown I think it’ll handle you fishing it out and still working (the button is not aluminum so I don’t know how it would handle being left in a fire, but if you get it out quickly, I imagine it’ll be alright in a campfire.)
Brightness
I mentioned before that if I’m looking to have just one light then I want to enjoy the low lamp setting for as long as possible but this light is also tactical, meaning it can get bright and with it’s zoom function you can see wide or far in the woods.
Who hasn’t been out in the wilderness and heard something stirring behind them in the brush? I don’t know about you, but I want to be able to whip around and see what’s lurking in the darkness. (Most times it’s just a squirrel, but at least you’ll know.)
And if you want to see far, Tac boasts a 2 nautical miles on this flashlight’s distance.
One customer even said they see deer with this thing from crazy distances.
This flashlight is really a no bs flashlight for many uses if you prefer a handheld flashlight. It’ll blind a wild animal (or intruder), let you see far in case of bears or wildcats, survive water accidents and rain. It’s one less thing to think about.
